Illegal Parking Rampant Again in Central Jakarta

Even though often raided, many drivers still park their vehicles illegally on sidewalks and roadsides in Central Jakarta. Not only causing traffic congestion, such a thing is also disturbing other road users.

We definitely will control illegal parking soon

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, illegal parking on sidewalks is mushrooming along Jalan Abdul Muis, Tanah Abang, and Jalan Raya Kesehatan, Cideng, Gambir, where tens of motorcycles parked in lines until closing the sidewalks. Similar condition is also seen under Roxy Mas Flyover to railway on Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari and in front of Metro Pasar Baru, Sawah Besar, where tens of cars parked along Jalan KH Samanhudi. Ironically, those vehicles are parked right below parking prohibition sign. Same thing happened in front of Central Jakarta Resort Police office, where hundreds of motorcycles and cars parked on roadsides until Gang Sentiong, Jalan Raya Kramat Raya, Senen.

Head of Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Syamsudin, admitted that illegal parking is rampant again in his jurisdiction. Because of that, personnel will be deployed to the field to control illegal parking on sidewalks and roadsides. “We definitely will control illegal parking soon,” he asserted.

Illegal Parking, 1,578 Vehicles Netted in 3 Months

According to Syamsudin, all this time his party is having difficulties in monitoring illegal parking due to lack of personnel in the field. Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department itself is currently inventorying illegal parking spots in uncontrolled as well as controlled areas. “We are recording data of illegal parking locations, whether the new ones as well as the old ones,” he stated.
